The 69 Camaro had its first outing at the Fram Dragway test and tune session in November 2009.

The business of Drag Racing in New Zealand is not new, however fulltime professional drag racing in New Zealand is, and our aim is to bring a new level professionalism and performance to these shores as well as secure the opportunity to compete in Australia. This is a tall order but it has been done before and is currently being done by Athol Williams with his nitro bike on a full season basis very successfully.

With the help of some very enthusiastic supporters and the guidance from very experienced people in the marketing and promotional business we have decided to commit and establish this team and business.

The 69 Camaro has been built by a dedicated team and associate sponsors who have provided product or services that share the same vision that brings together a combination of committed team work, mechanical and engineering challenge, competitiveness and sportsmanship.

We have meticulously built a brand new chrome moly 4 link chassis using the latest designs from the USA that conforms to SFI specs, Australian ANDRA rules and NZDRA rules. The body is an extensively modified ex Camp Stanley 69 Camaro brought here in 2008 from the USA.

Competing in New Zealand’s toughest class brings many challenges to any new team but gaining experience from operations such as DG Motor Sport, Tim Watkins Racing and Hellraiser Drag Racing has provided invaluable background and knowledge in this formidable class. Additionally Parry Hunt has built and tuned many cars for drag racing as well as dirt, boat and circuit racing.

One person alone cannot build, fund and run an operation such as this. It’s a combination of many essential elements: chassis, engine, tyres, fuel, sponsors, team and driver – this will then determine performance and results.
