Masterton Update – 24 February 2010

9:51 pm - Apr 24, 2010

22 February 2010
The Team’s worst case scenario happened on Saturday 20 February at Masterton Motoplex when Parry was involved in an accident in the camaro.
The good news is Parry will be fine in time. He’s still in Masterton hospital in severe pain because of broken ribs and massive internal bruising. There were NO internal injuries or surgery needed. The drs and radiographer were absolutely blown away that he didn’t have any other injuries.

Well the car is another story…  The car is in the process of being stripped down as we speak and our Team will be pulling out all stops to get it back to its former glory. Not this year, perhaps next.

All three of his daughters have told him he WILL NOT be driving it again! As you will know from photos and video footage the craftsmanship in the build was second to none and absolutely saved his life. The rollcage did not budge but bits around it did.

We’ll post updates as Parry improves.

Cheers, Kerry Hunt, family and team

UPDATE: Wednesday 24 February 2010
Parry was discharged from Masterton hospital today and is starting his rehab at home. He will be out of action for a while as his body recouperates from the trauma it encountered.

Thanks again to everybody who has sent through messages of support and offers of help. It is very much appreciated.

Parry especially wants to acknowledge his team. They have been absolutely awesome in taking care of our family during this time and getting the car sorted out. The team did not want Parry to see the car in its damaged state so it has been completely stripped down to the chassis. They have compiled a list of what new parts are required and what can be repaired. As mentioned before the build of the chassis was second to none and the majority of it withstood all impact. Overall there was very little damage to the chassis.

As you’d expect we’re out for the rest of the season but we’ll update the website periodically with the progress on the rebuild of the car.

Cheers, Kerry

summer nationals – what a blast…

8:54 pm - Jan 5, 2010

We’ve just returned from the summer nationals run at Taupo International Dragway on 4 January 2010 where we took out the Top Doorslammer title.

camaro - finals taupo 4jan10 web

The whole team is absolutely stoked we were able to pull something like this off after only our second outing and it’s a credit to them that they were able to prepare and turn around the car after each run with such precision that we could improve incrementally each time.

Our qualifying pass saw us deliver an 8.29 @ 120mph after blowing a belt at half track.

Elimination rounds saw us improving to a 7.31 @ 183mph followed by a 7.27 @ 202mph.

camaro - taupo elimination 1 4jan10 webWe delivered a 7.01 @ 205mph in the final.

Our thoughts are with Kevin McGregor after he crashed during our first elimination round.  We know only too well the time and money it takes to get where we are and we’re not usually insured whilst on the track.  We’re hoping Kevin can get things together and be back in action soon.

Thanks to our sponsors (especially PPG and Red Line Oil who are assisting more and more as the season progresses) and supporters yet again.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Steve and Lynda Zahorodny and the NZDRA crew for putting on a very slickly run meeting.

An acknowledgement also must be made to Karen Algar for her wonderful photography work at the track.  The majority of the images on the website are hers.

Over and out from Parry and the team.

Heres some video of our runs:

First qualifying – we blew a blower belt at half track.

First elimination against Kevin McGregor.

Final – going solo…

PPG co-sponsor of 69 camaro RS

1:18 pm - Dec 20, 2009

Dave White, New Zealand Manager for PPG was pleased to be able to confirm their sponsorship support for the 69 camaro rs for the balance of the 2009-10 season.Print

Parry Hunt welcomed PPG’s additional support and looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship for the rest of the season.  As well as direct support PPG supplied a range of liquid crystal special effects paint to make the 69 camaro rs look as good as it does.

69 camaro completes licensing

9:37 pm - Dec 1, 2009

We had another skid at fram autolite dragway on 28-29 november.

After completing the burnout in our first outing we blew a blower belt.

The next day we managed to get in two skids which completed the cars licensing requirements.  The first skid being a 7.76 at 140mph taught us we needed a bit more wing in the car. The second skid was a 7.38 at 205mph I had to back out of at half track due to tyre shake, but after putting my foot back in it to complete the run gave me the fright of my life and made me realise we need to give the car a lot more respect…..
